Do children recognise advertising?

Advertising on online media can sometimes be difficult to recognise as such. Words are often disguised as vlogs and games. Can children see through the commercial goals? This was investigated by various researchers of Radboud University Nijmegen in April 2018.

Results offer insights for childrearing

Led by Prof Esther Rozendaal, the research team studied the media savvy of 24 children aged 8-12 at elementary schools and aftercare locations. In addition to questionnaires, the team used a newly designed measurement instrument. The results will be announced soon on the website of KidsFoundation. These results are expected to offer valuable insights to be used for educating children in media savvy.
